Google Checkout: The Conclusion

For a week now I have been dancing in circles with Google Checkout over an order I foolishly placed through their service. Yesterday I received a call from the merchant informing me that the order finally went through and that they would ship it for a next day delivery. Yay!

This morning I received an email from Google Checkout. My order was cancelled.

Turns out, it took google so long to send the order that by the time it reached the merchant they were out of stock. Why they told me otherwise just the day before is another story for another day. There’s enough blame to go around for everyone.

Thus ends a thankful brief, but none the less, frustrating experience, and now starts the worry of will I be charged for something that was never delivered.

My conclusion; If someone is considering using Google Checkout–don’t. The stress is not worth $10. I suspect this failed service will quietly disappear soon, unless people like Kirby Witmer, Amelia Kleymann and all the others continue to get the word out. Then it won’t go so quietly, but as a colossal embarrassment that it is.

I’ll admit I’m a little bitter. I’ve waited for this damn DVD all year. Hopefully Santa can find a copy of the Superman Ultimate Collectors Edition and slip it under the tree for me.

In the meantime, does anyone know a good search engine I can start using?
